Callaway Gardens
Wednesday 10-13. Most of the day was spent driving but it went smoothly. Even the slowdown around Atlanta wasn't too bad! We arrived at Callaway Gardens in time for a late dinner in the lodge dining room. We enjoyed a Brussel sprout /arugula salad and ribeye steak.
After the meal we asked about plugging in the car and discovered we could plug it in right outside the main entrance-very convenient. The outlets are designed for golf carts but are not used after sundown. We were asked to depart the spot by 8am. They were just regular 20A 110VAC outlets, so the charging rate is a whopping 4 miles/hour! We did pick up close to 50 miles overnight. Not too shabby.
It was dark when we arrived so we looked forward to exploring Calloway Gardens on our bikes the next day.
Thursday 10-14. Our day at Callaway Gardens was great! We ate breakfast on our balcony and headed out for our bike ride around the gardens. We stopped at the butterfly exhibit, chapel and Discovery Center. Although their famous azaleas and rhododendron were not in bloom, the forest path around the park was beautiful. We ended our ride at the Pumpkin Festival. Unfortunately it is only lit up on the weekends.
After our ride we swam in the lodge pool. It was sunny and warm so we didn't mind that the pool was on the cool side. The pool was flanked by two hot tubs....we enjoyed one of them.
For dinner we headed into town (downtown Pine Mountain, GA) to the Oyster House. The seafood is brought from Louisiana so we enjoyed Gulf oysters and shrimp, a little foretaste of this upcoming weekend in Baton Rouge.
